Technical Information 06.94 - Page 2 2. New STIHL Autocut 11-2 and Autocut 21-2 semi-automatic cutting heads, cutting head for FE 55 These new cutting heads have been developed from the Autocut 10-2 and Autocut 20-2 as well as the cutting head for the FE 55 electric trimmer. There have been no changes to the method of operation or the applications, but the appearance of the spool housing has changed (1, 2). The new spool housing (2) features an integrally molded, projecting flange (8) which helps prevent the cutting lines breaking off directly at the guide sleeves. Furthermore, lugs (9) are positioned on the flange at either side of the guide sleeves. When cutting close to solid obstacles the nylon lines hug the contour of the lugs so that they are not bent back or severed by the objects they come into contact with. This helps to considerably reduce the amount of nylon line wasted as a result of breakages. The new and original spool housings are interchangeable. The name of the cutting head is marked on each of the spools (4, 6). The names have been extended, e.g. from "Autocut 20" to "Autocut 20 - 21" to 4, 6 make the spools universally suitable for the original and new versions of the cutting heads. The part numbers remain unchanged. The spool for the FE 55 cutting head is marked "Autocut 10 - 11", but equipped with a 2 mm diame- ter quiet line. Owing to country-specific approval and noise regulations, the FE 55 must be operated with a "quiet" cutting line. Parts availability The new spool housing with flange (1) has been STIHL Autocut 10-2, Autocut 11-2, Autocut allocated the part number of the original spool 20-2, Autocut 21-2 cutting heads and the housing without flange (4004 710 3600) - cutting heads for the FE 55 may only be used see summary. in conjunction with a deflector shield that is It is therefore possible that spool housings with or equipped with a line limiting blade. without flange will be supplied from the factory for a temporary period. The original spool housing without flange (2) has been allocated the new part number 4004 710 3601 for markets that will continue to use the original versions of the cutting heads. 3. New STIHL Autocut 25-2
semi-automatic cutting head
This new cutting head was developed from the
STIHL Autocut 30-2 but is slightly smaller and
lighter. The Autocut 25-2 is recommended for use
with the models FS 44, 66, 74, 76, 81, 86, 96, 106
and FR 106. The new cutting head offers very
good acceleration when used with these models.
As the designation indicates, the Autocut 25-2
operates with two cutting lines. Approx. 10 meters
of 2.4 mm diameter nylon line fits on the partitioned
spool. Various lengths of nylon line are available
for refilling the spool (see summary).
Nylon line feed is effected by tapping the head on
the ground during cutting. This advances approx.
3 cm (11/2") of fresh nylon line. Cutting lines are
trimmed to their maximum permissible length by
the blade on the deflector. For this reason the
cutting head should not be tapped on the ground
unnecessarily while the line length is still adequate.
Semi-automatic feed is possible only if both cutting
lines are at least 3 cm (11/2") long. This ensures
that there is sufficient centrifugal force to activate
the feed mechanism.
The STIHL Autocut 25-2 cutting head has to
be used only be used in conjunction with a
deflector shield that is equipped with a line
limiting blade. Page 5 of 7
