Cut-off machine TS 460 – type 4221
Contents
1. Carburetor (fixed jet instead of high speed screw, modified choke lever)
2. Throttle trigger, throttle interlock, choke slide (modification to meet EPA exhaust-gas emission standards)
3. Starter mechanism (introduction of steel shaft)
Compliance with EPA regulations (see TI 27.97) is achieved with the modifications described below.
The factory applies the label shown below to all machines that conform to the latest standard.

ENGINE FAMILY: A8XS. R ; Type: ; DISPL.: CC;M.D.:
THIS ENGINE CONFORMS TO U.S. EPA PHASE 1 EMISSION REGULATIONS

1. Carburetor
The original carburetor

HS 276 B (4221 120 0602) 1
is replaced by the new version
HS 275 A (4221 120 0651).
4
Carburetor HS 275 A has a fixed jet (1) instead of
the original semi-fixed jet and high speed adjusting 5 3

screw. The inlet control lever (2), the lever on the
throttle shaft (3), the choke lever (4) and the
torsion spring (5) on the choke shaft have also
been modified so that the carburetor can be tuned
precisely.
The carburetor is set at the factory to provide an
optimum fuel-air mixture under all operating
conditions. It ensures that the machine will run
smoothly, be fuel efficient, operate reliably and
produce low emissions.

1.1 Standard setting
• Check the air filter and clean or replace it if
necessary
• Check the spark arresting screen and clean or
replace it if necessary
• Carefully screw the low speed screw (L) down
onto its seat.
Then open it one turn counterclockwise (L = 1)
• Set engine speed to 2,500 rpm with the idle
speed screw (LA).
! Use a tachometer
1.2 Throttle control, choke control
The throttle trigger and throttle interlock have also
been modified so that the new carburetor can be
tuned precisely (position of the throttle shutter).
The part numbers of the parts concerned remain
unchanged.
The profile of the choke slide has been modified in
addition to the rewind spring and profile of the
choke lever for the newly defined position of the
choke shutter. All parts have been given a new 1
part number in this context.
1.3 Service notes

337TI012 KN
Carburetor: The new carburetor HS 275 A must
also be used as replacement part for older
machines. The new choke slide must also be used
in combination with the new carburetor.
1 = Original choke slide
Throttle control: The play (clearance) of the 2 = New choke slide
throttle cable must be checked and reduced if
necessary when installing the new carburetor
HS 275 A in an older machine.
!Then check: The speed must not increase
when the throttle trigger is actuated without
depressing the throttle interlock! If necessary, the
play of the throttle cable must be increased again!
In cases of excessive wear, the throttle trigger
4221 182 1000 b and throttle interlock
4221 182 0800 b (new version in both cases) must
also be replaced in order to optimize the
performance. The new throttle trigger and throttle
interlock must generally also be used for older
machines with carburetor HS 276.
1.4 Fuel (mixing ratio)
The EPA permit was obtained with a fuel-oil mixing
ratio of 50:1. See also TI 27.97!
