(ODVWR6WDUW
All the above mentioned models will be equipped ElastoStart
with the ³(ODVWR6WDUW´ starter grip in future. Standard grip
The new ElastoStart replaces the previous
ElastoStart version 1128 190 3400 used in models
026, FS 550 and BR/SR 320, 400. On models
020 T, the ElastoStart replaces the standard
starter grip 1121 195 3400 installed up to now. fo
The ElastoStart can be backfitted to all the above
mentioned models.
The starter grip DQG the rope are needed for
first-time installation of the ElastoStart. No further
changes to the rewind starter mechanism are
necessary. The only difference compared to the
000TI007 KN
standard grip is the procedure for installing the
starter rope (see service notes).

Method of operation
When the starter grip is in the idle position, the
sleeve, coil spring and washers are contained
within the grip.
During the cranking process, the pull exerted by
the user is transmitted to the rope 6=via the grip
1=I=lower washer 5=I=coil spring 4=I=upper washer 1
5=~nd sleeve 3=K=====================================================R
This causes the coil spring to be tensioned. The
increase in spring tension is directly proportional 4
to that of the compression pressure. The peak
forces that occur during each revolution of the
crankshaft are smoothed out in this way. 5
The forces that occur at the starter grip after the
first compression stroke are almost uniform. This 3
000TI029 KN
greatly reduces the starting effort.
6
If the pulling force exceeds the limit defined by
the coil spring, the spring will be fully compressed
and the force is transmitted directly from the grip
to the rope. fo
Service notes
The ElastoStart starter grip is available only as a
complete unit for replacement purposes.
Therefore, repairs are limited to replacing the grip
and the starter rope.
Installing ElastoStart with starter rope
• Thread the starter rope through the rope guide
====bushing=Est~rter=housingF=from outsideK
• Thread the rope through the rope rotor and
secure it with ~=simple overhand knot.
• The procedure is then as before.

Replacing the starter rope
• Ease the cap from the starter grip.
• Remove the remaining rope from the grip and
rope rotor.
• Fit starter rope for ElastoStart in the same way
as the standard rope, but secure it in the grip a
with a VLPSOH overhand knot.
• End of rope D = 4 - 7 mm (about 1/4")
000TI031 KN
• Pull the knot into the grip.
• Fit cap in the grip so that it snaps into position.
• Procedure is then as before.
Service note
Maintenance of the rewind starter can be carried out by the owner on all models (procedure is described
in owner’s manual). For this reason it is necessary to inform users of the changes in procedure for the
ElastoStart.
