New Model 018 Chainsaw - Series 1130
STIHL 018 C with Picco Micro Mini cutting attachment
The new STIHL 018 is a systematic further development of the time-proven 017.
The 018 is available in two versions:
018 (standard version)
and
018 C with
• Quick chain tensioner
• ElastoStart
• Decompression valve
The main differences between the 018 and the 017 are the increase in displacement to 31.8 cm3 (1.94 cu.in)
and the resultant boost in engine power to 1.4 kW (1.9 bhp). Furthermore, a carburetor with a balanced idle
system (BIS) is installed for the first time in this series of chain saws (see 2).
Applications are the same as for model 017.

1. Technical Description
Engine
• Further developed STIHL single cylinder
two-stroke engine.
• Machined crankshaft (optimized big end
bearing, improved high-speed characteristics)
Cylinder
• Four port technology (better mixture control, fo
cleaner combustion, lower emissions).
Piston
• Two-ring piston

2.4 Cutting Attachments
Model 018 chainsaws can be equipped with the
same cutting attachments as the 017.
See Chains/Bars catalog.
Rollomatic Mini guide bars will come with an
optimized nose sprocket in future.
This results in a change in the part numbers from
3005 000 4105/4109 to 3005 000 3905/3909.
The new versions of the guide bars can also be
installed on the STIHL 017.
When the PMN is used on the 018, only series
3005 000 3905/3909 guide bars may be installed.
The bar label is additionally marked “018”.

5. Repairs
If the unit is started up in the course of repairs
or maintenance work, it is essential to strictly
observe all local and national safety regulations
and the safety precautions outlined in the
owner’s manual.
5.1 Carburetor
The carburetor has neither a high speed screw (H)
nor a low speed screw (L). It is adjusted at the
factory to provide the engine with an optimum
fuel-air mixture in all operating conditions.
Adjusting idle speed
• Check air filter and fit a new one if necessary.
• Check spark arresting screen and clean or
replace as necessary.
Carefully screw the idle speed screw (LD)
lightly onto its seat (counterclockwise).
Note: left hand thread.
Then open it 2 full turns clockwise
(standard setting of LD = 2)
• Start and warm up the engine.
Adjust idle speed correctly with the (LD) screw:
The chain must not rotate
Engine idle speed too low:
Slowly turn idle speed screw (LD) clockwise
until chain begins to rotate, then turn screw back
one half turn from that position.
Chain rotates when engine is idling:
Turn (LD) slowly counterclockwise until chain
stops rotating - then about another one half turn in
the same direction from that position.

5.2 Tightening Torques
Tightening torques are the same as for model 017
(see STIHL 017 Service Manual).
5.3 Repair Times
The repair times are exactly the same as for the
STIHL 017.
The specified repair times assume that the work
is performed by trained personnel in a properly
equipped service workshop.
6. Spare Parts
An illustrated parts list is available for model 018.
The illustrated parts list for the 018 is included in
the next issue (4.98) of the microfilm and CD-ROM.
