Replacement Ignition Systems for STIHL Chainsaws and Power Tools
1. Assignment of Replacement
Ignition Systems
1.1 General
A number of universal versions of ignition modules
are available that can be used for several engine
families. They are intended to help simplify
stockkeeping and reduce service costs.
In most cases these universal ignition models differ
from the versions installed on the production line in
terms of make, shape and part number, but are
otherwise completely compatible as far as
installation and function are concerned.
For some replacement ignition modules it is
necessary to shorten the ignition lead and/or the
short circuit wire and crimp a new (different)
connector to the short circuit wire. The required
length of the ignition lead is shown in the included
reference table and the spare parts list.
For the sake of clarity, the replacement ignition
modules and flywheels of current chainsaw and
power tool models are listed in the reference table.
Replacement parts for older machines can be found
in their respective illustrated parts lists
(refer to “Spare Parts for Previous Models”).
Warning! Different ignition modules with different
flywheels are available in some cases for a single
engine. It is essential to use only the combinations
shown in the list. Using an incorrect combination
may impair functional and operational safety as well
as product safety (e.g. excessively high RPM,
running in reverse).
