1. New MS 310 version
The new MS 310 is available to broaden the number Specifications
of choices in the “medium-duty range“. The sales
Displacement: 3.60 cu.in (59.0 cc)
designation of this version is in line with the new
name structure for STIHL chain saws (see TI Bore: 1.85 in (47 mm)

2. New sales designations for
029 SUPER and 039
Models 029 SUPER and 039 will be renamed STIHL
MS 290 and STIHL MS 390 to bring them into line
with the new structure of model designations (see TI
25.2000). The new round name plates introduced
to coincide with this change are clipped to the side
of the fan housing instead of the top of the machine
(on handle housing). The previous company logo
attached at this point has been deleted.
Parts availability
The handle housing comes with name plates for
models 029, 029 SUPER and 039 (3 adhesive
labels on a backing sheet). The new fan housing is
supplied without a name plate. The round name
plate (MS 290 or MS 390) must be ordered
separately. A neutral plate (STIHL logo without
model designation) is available for cases where the
new fan housing is installed on machines that
already have a name plate on the handle housing.

3. Clutch (cover washer)

A new cover washer 1127 162 1000 will be installed
in the near future between the oil pump and clutch. 3
In the event of a clutch spring failure, the cover
washer helps reduce consequential damage to the T0
crankcase and oil pump. The clutch carrier and
clutch shoe retainers have been modified to
accommodate the cover washer.

Service note
The cover washer may be installed only together
with the modified clutch carrier and retainers. The
previous version of the clutch (with carrier
1125 162 3201), must be installed without the
cover washer.
Installation: The word “TOP” on the cover washer

4. Tank caps, engine housing
The new tank caps described in chapter 1 of this TI
will also be introduced on models MS 290 (formerly
029 SUPER) and MS 390 (formerly 039). The
engine housing has been modified in the area of the
filler necks and been assigned a new part number.
Parts availability
In order to provide interchangeability, the tank caps
will come with the new replacement engine housing
1127 020 3003.
