The new STIHL FC 85 extends the line of
professional power edgers.
Recommended applications are the same are those
of the FC 75 power edger.
The controls and drive tube are exactly the same as
those of the FS 85.
Gearbox, deflector and skirt are completely new and
offer improved functionality.

are the same as those of the loop handle version 4
of the FS 85 brushcutter.

6. Repairs
If the unit is started up in the course of repairs or maintenance work, it is essential to strictly observe
all local and national safety regulations and the safety precautions outlined in the owner’s manual.
6.1 Carburetor Adjustment
Standard setting
. Mount the cutting blade.
. Check air filter and fit a new one if necessary.
. Inspect spark arresting screen in muffler and
clean or replace as necessary.
. Carefully screw down the idle speed screw (LD)
counterclockwise (left-hand thread) until it is
against its seat, the open it two full turns
clockwise.

. Carry out standard setting.
. Start and warm up the engine.
Engine stops while idling:
. Turn the idle speed screw (LD) slowly clockwise until engine runs smoothly - the blade must not rotate.
Blade rotates while engine is idling:
. Turn the idle speed screw (LD) counterclockwise until the blade stops rotating and then turn the screw
about another one turn in the same direction (counterclockwise).
Erratic idling behavior, poor acceleration:
. Turn the idle speed screw (LD) no more than one half turn counterclockwise.
6.2 Tightening Torques
The tightening torques for the powerhead and control handle are listed in the service manual for models
FS 75, 80, 85, FC 75, HL 75. For the gearbox and deflector with skirt see service notes for model FC 83, 85 in
