for 017 and 018
Models 017 and 018 have been renamed
STIHL MS 170 and STIHL MS 180 C,
STIHL MS 180 C (KAT) to bring them into line with
the new naming structure (see TI 25.2000).

2. Uprated Engine 3. Shroud
Four-port cylinder on MS 170
A high efficiency cylinder with four transfer ports is
installed in the MS 170.

The renamed models feature a shroud with modified
outer contours and cooling slots on both sides.
The slots are designed to improve carburetor
cooling during operation and reduce vapor lock,
especially on models with a catalytic converter.
A heat reflecting foil is installed in the shroud to
provide protection from the high temperatures
radiated by mufflers with a catalytic converter.

The new shroud is used as a replacement for all
machine versions.

Modified port timing on MS 180 C
The MS 180 is equipped with a four-port cylinder.
The port timing has been optimized to boost power
by a further 0.1 kW.
