3.1 Saw Chain

3.1.1 Sharpening the Chain
To sharpen the hard alloy chain, use only the USG
High speed screw H with a diamond wheel for the Rapid Duro. Follow the
(standard setting): 3/4 turn procedure described in the USG instruction manual
(no further than stop) and the instruction sheet included with each chain

arresting screen inside the muffler:
. Allow muffler to cool down.
. Remove the bar and chain.

3.1.2 Replacing Chain Links
The saw chain can be repaired with the NG 4 and 5
NG 5.
Only the rivets of the tie straps can be punched out
for repairs. Replacement cutter teeth are available

as a repair kit with preassembled tie straps and drive
links (see chapter 4).
. Take out the screws (4) and remove the
muffler’s upper casing (5).

3.3 Replacing the Starter Rope
. Remove the fan housing from the crankcase.

. Bend back the retaining tabs (6) and pull out the
spark arresting screen (7).
. Clean the spark arresting screen if it is dirty –
. Use a screwdriver or suitable pliers to carefully
replace if damaged or heavily carbonized pry the spring clip (1) off the starter post.
. Carefully pull the rope rotor (2) with washer (3)

to pull the rewind spring out of the housing.

. foUse a screwdriver to pry the rope out of the
starter grip.
. Remove the remaining rope from the rotor and
the starter grip.

. Thread the new starter rope through the top of
the grip and bushing (5) – secure the end of the
rope with the special knot shown in the
illustration.
. Thread the other end of the rope through the

The starter grip must locate firmly in the rope guide

If this is not possible, the spring is overtensioned
4 and could break – take one turn of the rope off the
rotor.
. Fit the fan housing on the crankcase.

. Install the pawls (4) in the rotor (2) and fit the 3.4 Repair Times
washer (3) on the starter post. Repair times are the same as for the STIHL MS 460.
. Use a screwdriver or suitable pliers to fit the
spring clip (1) on the starter post and over the
pegs on the pawls – the spring clip must point 4. Spare Parts
clockwise as shown in the illustration.

. Make a loop in the unwound starter rope and drive links, cutter and two preset
use it to rotate the rotor six full turns clockwise tie straps
(in direction of arrow).
. Hold the rotor steady – pull out and straighten
the twisted rope.
. Release the rotor and let the rope wind slowly
