                                                       2.1     Important note regarding replacement
                                                               parts
                                                       The shaft of the new series 4601 KW-KM KombiTool
                                                       is approximately 220 mm (8.7 in.) longer than the
                                                       shaft of the previous design for the series 4602. The
                                                       longer shaft is required due to the pushback force
                                                       created by the MM 55 gear unit. The shorter shaft of
                                                       the previous KombiTool may not be used for the new
                                                       design KW-KM!
                                                       Furthermore, the gears (4.4, item 7) and shafts
                                                       (4.4.1, item 8) of the 4602 series may not be used.

3.       Permissible KombiEngines                        4.2       Mount the deflector

This KombiTool can only be used with the following
KombiEngines:
STIHL KM 55 R, KM 85 R,
STIHL KM 110 R
The KombiTools can also be mounted to STIHL
brushcutters with a split boom (T models).
These KombiTools can therefore also be operated
with the following devices:
STIHL FS 55 RT, FS 83 RT, FS 85 RT

4.       Assembling the unit

4.1      Marking the shaft

                                                         .     Remove clamping screws (1) and slide the
                                                               deflector (2) beyond the mark (arrow) on the
                                                               shaft (3), then slide it back until the deflector
                                                               reaches or covers the mark (arrow in the
                                                               bottom detail).
                                                         .     Align the deflector so that it is vertical, and the

4.3       Remove the KB or KW sweeping tools           4.4.1     Aligning the gear box

      shaft.

      manner.

4.4       Mounting the gear box

                                                       .     Align the gear box on the shaft so that the shafts
                                                             (8) are parallel with the deflector.
                                                       .     Tighten clamping screws to prevent the gear
                                                             box from rotating on the shaft.

                                                       4.5       Mount the KB or KW sweeping tools

.     Shove the sleeve (4) on the shaft (5) until it
      stops.

                                                       .     Place the sweeping tool (3) on the shaft. Insert
                                                             the spring clip (1) in the hole on the end of the
                                                             shaft and turn it flat against the surface.
                                                       .     Mount the other sweeping tool in the same

4.6     Removing and fitting the deflector                      Removal

                                                                .   Release the tab (1) with the combination wrench
                                                                    and pull off the deflector extension.
                                                                Mounting
                                                                .   Shove the right deflector extension onto the
                                                                    deflector and lock in the tab (1).
                                                                .   Shove the left deflector extension onto the
                                                                    deflector and lock in the tab (1).

                                                                The deflector extension guides keep material away
                                                                from you and the device. Never work without a
                                                                deflector extension.
The left and right deflector extensions are different.

6.      Service accessories

6.1     Special Servicing Tools
The special tools are specified in the STIHL
KombiTool service manual.

7.      Spare parts
A printed replacement parts list is available for these
new tools which lists just the following:
KW-KM (4601), KB-KM (4601),
KW-KM (4602).
The new devices are also included in edition
01/2005 of the STIHL Service Communication
System (MediaCat CD-ROM).

Important:
The shaft for the new series 4601 KW-KM is approx.
220 mm (8.7 in.) longer than the shaft for the series
4602 and must be used for the series 4601!
The gears (4.4, item 7) and shafts (4.4.1, item 8) of
the 4602 series may not be used.
