1. New STIHL TrimCut™ mowing
heads
The new series of TrimCut™ mowing heads from
STIHL have been further improved over previous,
manually adjustable versions. Experience in the
field has also been taken into account in the
development of the new mowing heads.
The following versions are now available:
STIHL TrimCut™ 31-2
STIHL TrimCut™ 41-2
STIHL TrimCut™ 51-2
The new mowing heads replace versions STIHL
TrimCut™ 30-2, TrimCut™ 40-2 and
TrimCut™ 50-2.
The advantages of the TrimCut™ mowing heads
were described in TI 07.1999. However, these new

TrimCut™ versions offer the following additional
advantages as compared with the previous
versions:
Top: new version of the TrimCut™ . ALL STIHL nylon lines up to a diameter of

. Larger line volume; the effect of this increase in
relation to the diameter of the nylon line is as
follows:
- 60% increase for 0.095 in (2.4 mm)
- 75% increase for 0.105 in (2.7 mm) A
- 100% increase for 0.120 in (3.0 mm)
- 100% increase for 0.130 in (3.3 mm)

. Cutting plane is lowered by distance A = 3/8 in

(10 mm): the grass is now cut shorter.
. Approx. 20% higher wear volumes: the flange
(1) on the spool insert is designed so the
mowing head can still be opened with the wing
nut (2) even when the flange is worn down.

approved for models listed in the table above.
Mowing heads may be used on machines with bike

the supplements enclosed with the mowing heads

Important!
The STIHL TrimCut™ mowing heads may only be
used with approved guards and installed cutter
blades. The cutter blade maintains permitted
maximum line length on approved guards for
mowing head applications.

1.2 Mounting the TrimCut™ mowing heads
The new STIHL TrimCut™ mowing heads are
mounted on the machine in the same way as the
previous versions. Assembly sequences for the brushcutters are listed
in 1.1 and for the TrimCut™ 31-2.
A supplement with illustrated mounting instructions
is enclosed with the STIHL TrimCut™ for users of
previous machine models.
1.2.2 Mounting the TrimCut™ 41-2
The most commonly required assembly sequences
are described in the following sections. The TrimCut™ 41-2 mowing head is supplied with
supplement 0457 363 0076 showing the approved
combinations of machine, mowing head, mounting
hardware and guard.

1.4.1 Documentation of spare parts

1.3 Replacing the nylon line
1.3.1 Examine mowing head for wear
Before replacing the nylon line, the mowing head
must be examined for signs of wear.

When the flange (1) on the spool insert becomes
worn and the lip (2) on the spool housing shows
slight signs of wear, the spool insert must be
replaced.
